The people behind Salon Rising

Salon Rising is run by three people: Samara Scott-Hunter, the salon owner whose work the methodology came from; Rich Scott-Hunter, the co-founder who runs the business; and Jen Veivers, the salon owner who co-hosts Salon Rising: The Podcast. We're a small Australian team building education for salon owners, by salon owners. This is who we are.

Samara Scott-Hunter

Samara Scott-Hunter has owned La Sorella, an award-winning hair salon on the Gold Coast, since 2008. Sixteen years of running her own business, growing it from a one-woman operation into a salon with a full team, is where the methodology behind everything Salon Rising teaches actually came from.

She founded Salon Rising in 2022 to teach Australian salon owners how she actually runs her business. Not the polished version. The version that includes the years she got the numbers wrong, the staff conversations she dreaded, the Sundays she worked unpaid before she figured out why. She co-hosts Salon Rising: The Podcast with Jen Veivers, and her work is the foundation of The Rising Method, our online course for salon owners.

Samara is the kind of salon owner other salon owners reach out to. Long before Salon Rising existed, she was being flown around Australia to talk to other salon teams, and her DMs were already full of owners asking how she'd done it. That's how Salon Rising started, really. Demand for her time outgrew her time.

She's a mother of three. Her brother Rich is her business partner. She is, depending on who you ask, a foodie, a margarita enthusiast, a fierce friend, and a relentless cheerleader for the women in her circle. She still works on the floor at La Sorella because that's where the lessons keep coming from.

If you've read this far, you'll meet her properly inside Salon Rising: The Podcast and The Rising Method.

Rich Scott-Hunter

Rich Scott-Hunter is co-founder of Salon Rising and the person running the business behind the scenes. The website you're on, the platforms underneath it, the way the course is built and delivered, the operations of the company, that's his work. He's Samara's brother and her business partner.

Rich is not from the hair industry. His background is marketing, and his job inside Salon Rising is to build the things that let Samara's work reach more salon owners than she could ever reach one on one. The Rising Method exists in its current form because Samara had the methodology and Rich figured out how to package it as an online course Australian salon owners could actually use.

He keeps a low public profile. You'll see his name on the podcast credits and on emails from Salon Rising. You won't see him on Instagram much. That's deliberate. The work is the thing.

Jen Veivers

Jen Veivers owns August Hair Co. and has been a hairdresser for over thirty years. She's the co-host of Salon Rising: The Podcast and works alongside Rich on the brand. Her perspective is the one that keeps everything Salon Rising publishes grounded in the actual reality of running a salon today, not what running a salon looked like ten years ago.

Jen and Samara have been best friends for over a decade. They worked alongside each other for nine years before Jen opened August Hair Co. two years ago. They've watched each other build, struggle, rebuild, and keep going. That long friendship is why the podcast sounds the way it does. Two women who actually know each other talking about the things salon owners don't usually talk about out loud.

Jen brings range. Hairdressing, salon management, education, public speaking, copywriting, content. She's a strong advocate for occupational health in the industry, having lived through the toll it takes on the body. She started a master's in business and has it on pause while she runs the salon, co-hosts the podcast, and helps rebuild Salon Rising. She is, by her own admission, a multi-passionate big-picture problem solver who has not yet learned how to do less than three things at once.

When she's not on the floor or behind a microphone, she's running her teenage kids around like an unpaid Uber driver, or outdoors with her family.
