We are going live today with one of my glorious clients. I'm just waiting for her to jump on for anyone that is catching this later. Welcome. We're talking all about rising finances with her, so that you guys can get a little bit of an idea. Hello!  Welcome. so much for joining.  As I said, I was saying before Obviously, you've just done Rising Finances and I am so insanely proud of you and where you've already taken this. Obviously, you've taken the information and you have run with it and I just thought it would be really good for anybody who's considering what this looks like.

It's easy for me to talk about. I've been doing it a really long time, but it would be awesome to hear your side of things. So I'll ask you questions, anything that you have to offer people that are thinking, Oh, I feel like I need to do something, but I don't know what it is. So, how did you come to doing rising finances?

How'd you find us? I found Salon Rising the podcast first, so I stalked K18 through Ausdair and your little lad pops up in the collective every single month, and I'd just taken over a business and I was, I think I was in a bit of a rut, a bit of a funk, I was just surviving. So I actually turned to your podcast for a little bit of help.

Yeah. And then I think you talked one about tax and it hit me in the feels and I was like, yeah, I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm just. Surviving, making it through the day to day, hoping that what I'm doing is enough. And in that podcast you mentioned, like, rising finances, and it was a no brainer for me when the October release come out to do it.

It's funny, I've got goosebumps when you said that, because that was one of the things that we spoke about so much. One of the other girls that we were in that. And I just feel like I'm surviving. And when she said that that day, I was like, Oh my God, that's what it is. That can be what it feels like for a salon owner.

It's like, I'm doing okay. You know, I'm just paying all the things and I'm surviving, but I don't know what it looks like beyond this. And I don't know how survive. survive anymore. Like I don't know how to make profit. I don't know how to put away the things. And no one teaches us how to be business owners.

Everyone is like, we're taught how to be, you know, hairdressers, beauty therapists, but no one teaches this. Okay. This is how you run a business. And these are all the things that you've got to think about. We go from working for someone being on a wage, not thinking about the taxes, the super, all of the things to all of a sudden a business and it's everything.

And it's everything all at once. And you're just like, how do you do this? How does, how does someone actually do this? What is the idea? How can we be learning all of the things while still doing all of the things? Exactly. Yeah. Amazing. So in finances, we have four classes.

It's funny because I think what people don't realize is how important it is for that first class and all of the, you know, the ideas and the beliefs the mindset, of how you feel about money. Yeah. How did you feel in that beginning stage? So, before the first, call, if you mentioned the word budget to me, I would run for the hills.

I would put it off. I'd just start, like, nah, I don't want to see it. I don't want to do a budget. Like, I just spend my money and hope that it's there. Like, yeah. Close your eyes. Spend it. Hope for the best. Yep. That's it. So, like, obviously the first one sitting there talking about your belief with money and how you look at money and how you spend it and receive it is very important.

That's the key, I think, to set up the whole thing. Yeah, I agree. Like, if you have a negative impact on money, which I think I was, like, I did have a very negative mindset on money. I just seen it as something that came and went, like, I never had abundance of, but having that mindset, not looking at it like that now, has made a huge difference.

Yeah, for me, it's that mindset, and for even now, you know, having the mindset of keeping, and coming back when things can feel slippery and be like, what? Laura of attraction. And am I bringing in right now by my mindset being so negative? What am I actually attracting to myself at all times and having that constant reminder?

And even I think when we start to take control, like you said with the budget sheets, when you start to take control of that money side of it and go, Oh my God. Okay. I feel I actually can make these decisions now. I actually know where I'm going. The mindset around money completely changes even though it's exactly you're in exactly the same situation as what you were because you can start to take control of it.

Everything changes. Cause you're like, I've got control over this now. I actually know what steps to make forward. So even though I'm still in the same place, money wise, my mindset, like I'm going to make moves to change things. And like I was hung up on this number. Like this business float, like I always had to have this number in my bank account, otherwise I didn't feel like I was going to survive.

So I'd ignore everything else. I'd be like, no, I can't put my tax away because there's not that amount in that account. And now that accounts way below what I normally would have in my mind. That it needs to be, but everything else is put away. Everything else is sorted. Yeah. So like. Cause what that brings when people, what that brings when people don't realize that is, if your account is high and you don't have your tax and stuff put aside, when your tax comes in, all it feels like is that internal, like, and now I have nothing again.

Whereas if that's off to the side and this account still, you're still looking at it going, okay, well that's still everything put aside. That's okay. I'm good here. I'm good. It makes you not have to think about the other side of it. Yeah, and that's exactly how I'm feeling with it now, whereas before it would give me so much anxiety.

To have it run low. Yeah. But then it's like, well, if it's running low and you don't have everything else put aside, it's right. Yeah. It's not working. So yeah, having that mindset difference and putting the things away, I think has made a huge difference as well. What was a big aha moment for you in particular?

The business budget. So I think it was, that was our second goal. I think it was, that was a huge thing for me. So seeing exactly everything that comes in, everything that goes out , and knowing what, like, category it's in, where you're spending the money, so then you know, okay, I'm getting so much out of the business because I wasn't paying myself a wage and, like, seeing all of that and saying, okay, the business is doing something for me and I'm not negative and I'm not in a, like, I'm not in debt, I'm not in any of the things, I'm actually, I am doing something and it is making some sort of profit somewhere.

Yeah. So that hasn't changed. That was the aha moment of, like, no, I'm not. I'm not working for free, but, yeah, you're like, I'm not working for free. I am still making money from this. That was a big, when we did those budget cheats, that was something that was really important for me because I think it's a, it's the mindset piece, right?

Being able to kind of shift that mindset piece of going, okay, well, I'm still taking something. Yeah. Even if it's a little bit, I'm still, I've still got something and it's still, it's functioning and it's running and it's worth it, if that makes sense, the stress is everything like that. You go, Oh, okay. It's doing well. Yeah, the wheels are in motion. And then now I can look at it and go, Okay, what can I do to make it better than survival mode? Yeah. And I think I'd love you to share with everybody.

You don't have to share the exact numbers, but I'd love you to share. So we have obviously our Voxer group. It's been so nice on calls, like you guys have all been so supportive. And I love, like, like I said, everyone, this can be done wherever. I love the first call you were having your hair done. You had years in like, we have to multitask, like this can't always be a way where we're just like, okay, I'm going to set aside this time because we're so busy.

I'm like multitask these girls, but it's all, it's really been when we're on the calls, everybody is so invested and everyone's like, yes, yes, that helps. That helps because potentially what somebody else is asking, you're like, oh, I didn't know I needed that. And then someone else will ask it and you're like, cool, yeah, cool, cool, cool.

Yeah. The boxer group, that was just, yeah, next level. Being able to have someone be like, Oh, so share what you shared with the team. Because for me, the biggest aha moment with you was when we did the capability sheet and you were like, Oh my God, capabilities wise, we should be making double what we're making.

Yeah. And I almost saw that click over in your head. And you were like, Oh, so we can do that. Yeah. And to be completely honest, when you first gave me that number, that you're like, this is what you need to be doing a week, I nearly fell off the stool I was sitting on because I was like, Oh my God. What? Like, I'm barely making half of that.

But I was like, no way can I make that. No, like, nah, it's not gonna happen. I saw that in your face. You were like, mmm, that's not gonna happen. Like, and I think the Importance of that sheet is not to go off your bottom dollar. So many people, like, I don't want to say, here's your bottom dollar.

This is what you make because then you can't, then you're still surviving. If you're only making bottom dollar, you're still surviving. And we don't want to do survival. Yeah. I was making bottom dollar and that was it. So being in survival, but then, so it would have been week four. I sent a message to the Voxer group and I did the number you gave me in week four.

And let me tell you, I checked it five times. I checked it on my phone. I checked it on the computer. I added it up on the calculator just to make sure I had made what it was. Because you didn't think it was possible. I didn't think it was possible. I was like, no. I even, like, with my mindset change, I was like, no, I'm only a little five chair salon with four staff, like, I can't do that.

And we've done it week four. Like it's just surpassed my expectation. So that was the end of cool three. You put it into place that week or the end of cool four, you put it into place that week last week and you were just like, okay, I'm just going.

Yeah, I think never do people realize how important it is, and we speak about this in the call, how important it is to have everybody on the path to where you need to go. So you literally shared it with your team and your team was like, let's go. Yeah, that was pretty much it. I was like, these are the numbers we need to make.

I even put my doubt there. I was like, I don't know if we can make it, but then I just broke it down. Yes. So in one of the sheets he gave us, it breaks down absolutely everything. And I was like, this is what we have to make. This is what you have to make as an individual. This is what the salon has to make per hour, but it was like little bite sized pieces.

And once you look at it like that, it's like maybe one extra thing of retail that you have to sell or. something like that. And we got to the Thursday and we're actually only open four out of the five days that week as well, which is crazy. But when we got to the Thursday and we had the Friday still to go, and I was like, okay, so we're down for the week.

But if we just put it off, Push, you know, it's like an extra hair treatment or someone that needs retail. Cause we had gotten really slack with offering retail to clients and they need it. They need it for their hair. It's not like we were giving them something just because we felt like it. I think retail has become such a dirty word.

And like I say to my, like, like I say to my team, All we're doing is fixing problems. Like the thing for me, the reason why retail is so important and I harp on my team here constantly is not to sell and to make more money. It's to fix problems. Like there is so many products I can't live without that I didn't have.

I wouldn't like, it would suck. And I just think even for me, being in this industry, I couldn't find anybody that would, like, that I could get the right facial from that could give me the right product. So literally one of my Salon Rising clients sends me what she knows I need and my skin's never looked better.

So I will never buy retail from anywhere else. I will just, every time I need it, I'll message her and be like, tell me what else I need. Like, what else do I need for my skin? Our clients want the same. They have problems. We need to fix them. And then it makes our job easier at the end of the day.

Yeah. Because they're coming in with the things we've recommended and their hair is pretty much how we need it to be to get the optimal service for it. And then they're coming in and they're like, thank God you recommended me those things because I actually can't live without them. And that's it. And that's all we've had to do.

That's literally, it was like, I think it was a couple of hundred dollars and we did it. And yeah. Yeah. It wasn't even that chaotic, so I was like, it's definitely now something I can see that we can do week in and week out. So, and the crazy thing is, is if you repeat and repeat even over a month, so if you repeat this over one month, you will make double, you're doing week on week, you're making double what you were making.

Yep. Yep. It's wild. And you already know what your bottom dollar is. Yep. So, you're gonna like literally go from surviving to absolutely thriving by knowing that these are your numbers. And it also gives you this peace of mind because you're like, if I want to pay myself more, I can. If I want to buy some more things for the salon, I can.

If I want to do this, I can. Of the discussions with you about pricing because everybody's always terrified about pricing. How did you feel about that side of it?

Was it more, did it make you feel more confident knowing those numbers so you could price properly? Yes. Yeah. So. I think I did, like, so I think my prices are okay. I think I was emotionally charging my clients. So what they had been used to, I was just charging them and was scared to like go, Oh, you've been getting a medium, like color, but your hair's long now.

Like those sorts of things. Like I was scared to put the prices up because I was scared that they were going to leave, like, or not like my prices. So seeing it, it actually made me look through my prices, restructure a little bit. And. Like everyone that's had their price slightly increased hasn't minded a bit, like we've given them the warnings, we've let them know and then, you know, next appointment it's going to be this much rather than this much and everyone's been fine.

I think too behind it, your energy is different behind it as well, because when you're charging, you feel, you're like, this is what I'm worth. And the client's like, this is what you're worth. And it's like this beautiful energy exchange where you're not like. I'm not charging them properly. They can probably feel the energy in that.

Whereas when you're charging appropriately and they're like coming and they're happy with it as well, everything feels easier. Yeah. And I think that's been the general consensus with even the staff. I'm like, you need to charge your worth and charge, make sure you're not. skimping out on the things that you are not offering more either.

Cause you'd be scared to, you know, say, Oh, will you really need a treatment? Cause you're worried that they've already, they're spending a full head of foils. They're not going to want to have a treatment or afford a treatment, but just communicating that with them. Like, yeah, it's like, Oh, Hey, you can't really need the treatment today.

It's an extra 30 on your service and they're fine. Like they're okay. Like they want their hair to feel amazing, but we, I think, as you said, get so emotional because we're so attached to our clients emotionally. Like we have those types of jobs. But if someone was like, do you want this, it'll make your hair better.

I would be like, absolutely. I want that. You know, offering it. We almost feel offended if they're like, no, it's no, it's okay. But we've done our job and we've offered the best solution possible. Yeah. Yeah. So what would you, what would you say to anybody that's sitting on the fence about doing something like this?

Just take the plunge, do it. It's honestly the best thing. Like I walked out with so much more knowledge. I feel like I can confidently talk to my accountant about all the things. Like I did my first bath statement myself this quarter. Cause I knew what I was doing. I knew what I was talking about. She helped me a little bit, but like little things like that.

Like, I know I'm not perfect. All of the things I know I don't need to be putting away. I know what's coming in and out of my salon money wise and just my mindset on money and making money and charging my clients and all of that and help, like, being honest with my team, like tickets. I have that has, it's honestly changed my whole perspective on my business in four weeks.

So like, you'd be silly not to do it. I love that. And literally this week when you messaged that, I think it was like Friday night. I was lying in bed and I was like, squealing, and my partner came in and I was just like, this, this is like, sent it to Rich and Jen, like, immediately, I was like, this is why I feel like, Like I love this program so much because it's exactly where I was.

And as soon as I felt like I could take control of it, I felt like I could move forward. And I was like, okay, I know what I'm doing. And I think it always, it keeps going. Like I constantly have moments like that as new, like you're a brand new salon owner. And I think that You know, you know, people say to me at which point should I do this?

Should I do it when I'm starting? Should I do halfway through? Should I wait? Should I, you know, I've been in this industry 20 years. Should I do it now? And I just think if you have any doubt out of what's going on and you're feeling like you're just surviving or you're feeling out of control, you do it then because this is all about trying to bring you back into control, knowing your numbers, knowing how you're doing things, because sometimes we can step outside our business in any form.

You know, I've been in my business for, I've had a business for 16 years, stepped out to have a baby and I'm back in my business now, but we kind of come and go outside in and out of our businesses as well. So I think that Constant knowledge of learning new things is invaluable. Absolutely. I second that.

Yeah. Like you need it. Like you've always got to keep learning, evolving, and you know, the world of business changes every day. And I've learned that in the last six months. And anyone who has started a business or like is in sort of the thick of it at the moment, I would like say a hundred percent do it because you don't want to get stuck and just plot along and then get to like, okay.

The end of the like financial year and then get a massive tax bill and just cripple like you need to have something that You just need to know what you're doing. You need to know where everything is, going in your business, staff, everything. The cool thing for me, looking at it from, from that perspective is we were in week four with you.

You doubled it, which meant you already, like with the double that you've made, you'd already paid the course off. Just with half of that double, you know what I mean? So for me, I was like, yes, these are the results I want to see. But you also now have all of those tools at your disposal. So you can keep using all of those different forms that you've got as the business grows.

Oh, you're such a great aid student. Tick, yeah. Tick, done. October's done, so I can look at the month and know what's gone in, what's coming out, where I need to push more, where I need to not push more, like where I need to not spend more, those sorts of things. So, just having that. Like, the spreadsheets in themselves, oh my god, they're delicious, they're everything you need.

Like, I have so many spreadsheets, I was like, hang with me, you're gonna die in this bit, but I promise you it'll be worth it. I feel like everyone comes back after that call three and is just like, I'm so hung over with spreadsheets. Yeah. Honestly, love them like, and there'll be something I'll use forever in my business.

Yeah. I've got clients that have had our old spreadsheets from like two years ago and they're like, I love that spreadsheet. And I'm like, yeah, we're just going to keep evolving them over time, make them better and better. But I love that spreadsheet because it just keeps me accountable to where I'm going.

And I think you don't have your finger on the pulse either. It's really hard to know where you need to go, where you need to push. Yeah, exactly. I love that. I love that. Exactly. Yeah. I love that one of my team just joined and I she can vouch for how much I talk about retail. Yeah. I love that. She was like, yes, my retail, I understand.

Okay. So before we get off anything else that you want to share, I want to say like the biggest thank you for coming on and sharing your story and telling everything. I can't wait to constantly hear your, you know, we've done it again, we've done it again, we've done it again, and see what the end of the next three months looks like because we're going into our busiest period.

So for you to get on there and be like, we did this this week, we did this week, this week, we did this this week, it makes me super excited. I am honestly so excited. I was actually dreading Christmas but now I'm like ready to go into it. I know my numbers, I know what we need to make. So I'm ready to go.

I'm, yeah. And thank you for having me on and thank you for creating this 'cause it's just honestly so amazing. It's a great little community. I love it. Oh, I love that. All right, for anyone that's got any questions please jump on and DM me anytime.

But I'm pretty sure that you can. DM Naomi as well. As you can see, it's Blondie the salon. And just, you know, get in touch. Cause at the end of the day, you know, sometimes it's hearing it, not from me, it's my program. It's like when you have somebody else recommend and be like, yes, it was definitely worth it.

Do it, jump on it. It's always good hearing from someone else, which is why it's really important for me to be really honest and open with how you guys are feeling and the success you guys have had, because. It can't just come from like, I know it works, but you know, it's amazing when I see, you know, we hadn't even been finished and the proof is you doubling what you thought you could make.

And you're like, Oh, it was actually super easy. It wasn't chaotic. It wasn't busy. It was just, yeah, it just happened and it was because I knew my numbers. The most exciting thing for me is now you will be able to pay yourself because when you came on I was like, What do you pay yourself? And you're like, I don't know.

No, sorry, this has to happen. Like this is the most important thing for me is making sure you're paying yourself because again, you can do it so long in your business until you become resentful for it. So you can, you can, you know, run on fumes for so long, and then you're like, okay, I have to actually start paying myself so that this is worth it, otherwise I am busting my ass for nothing.

Yeah, exactly. And once you pay, it's the same thing mindset wise. Once you start paying yourself, you're like, oh, I want to work more. I want to move more. I want to, I can see all of the things. Let's keep moving. Absolutely. Absolutely. And Just knowing, even like paying myself, like most people, like the things you said within that, like how to pay yourself, how to make sure you're putting tax away so you don't get stuck with that, those sorts of things I didn't even think about.

So, and you don't until it's too late. And all of a sudden you're getting a tax bill and you don't know what that one is and you don't know what this one is and you don't know, and you're just like, Oh, what is this? Yeah. Yeah. So it's like simplifying it as much as you can, as you said, your accountants are super important.

So simplifying it with your accountants, you know, and being able to have those conversations and a lot of the girls even have swapped accountants since we've been talking because they're like, I need to be able to have these conversations with my accountants as well. Yeah. Thank you. I'm just really lucky.

I have such a good accountant as well. So that's helped me so much. Yeah. But even she said, knowing what I know now. So from talking to me prior to Rising Finance to now, like she said, she was like, just your persona and how you speak about money has changed so much. And you know, like what you need to do.

And you want to delve into the money side, whereas before I was like, Oh, you do it. I'll just let you tell me how much I owe and I'll just write it down for now. Whereas now I know, now I know. And you get excited. I've got a salon that I work with. I actually work with the manager. I've worked with the owner before and now I work with the manager.

And when I first started working with her, she was just like, we can't reach that. It's not achievable. And she did it the first month and she was like, we nailed it. And I was like, Oh my God. So now every time, so she got on the call last month and she's like, we're now set. And in, She's there in Dubai. So it's in a different thing, but she's like, we're set to hit like 50, 000 Durham over and I'm like, What?

Like, and she's just like, we've got this. Like, once you know, you're like, I know it's achievable. Let's keep moving. Like, this is exciting. And it makes you actually really want to be in your business. And it's honestly, my whole mindset's changed. So I'm yeah, forever grateful. Thank you so much for coming on and sharing your time.

I really, really, really appreciate it. And I can not. Wait to continue to watch the growth and what you do. And I love that now you are a part of the community and I get to keep sharing In this with you and just see you rise more and more as a business owner. I honestly appreciate you so much. Same. All right, my love.

I will talk to you soon. Thank you for everybody joining. As I said, if you've got any questions, please DM, but our next rise in finances is opening. So jump on our Salon Rising Instagram and there'll be links in there as well. All right, my love. I adore you. I'll talk to you soon. Bye honey. Bye.
